BIO
Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, Brian’s journey in creative and performing arts began at a young age. After discovering his passion for filmmaking at 13, he began to write stories and have an interest in movies and filmmaking.
After he emigrated to Canada in 2002, he briefly attended post-secondary and worked on several mini-documentaries.
In 2010, he jumped into videography and directing music videos as a way to teach himself the fundamentals. His first short film “Normal People” was completed in 2013. His other works are ‘BOOKED’ trilogy (2014-2016), Wingwoman For Hire (2016), Award-winning ESCA (2020), Paper Planes (2021), Scarlet Love (2021) and DISCLOSURE (2021).
In late 2021, Brian was hired as a Head Writer/Development Consultant for Disconnect: The Wedding Planner (2023), a Netflix Series. The movie was in the Top 10 Netflix movies in its premiere week.
Brian believes that storytelling is a way to learn and relearn something about humanity, start a conversation about the issues hidden in reality, connect with people, and understand and heal oneself.
Brian’s major influences are Guillermo Del Toro, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, Brian De Palma, Oscar Wilde, Michael Mann, Francis-Ford Coppola, Kathryn Bigelow, James Cameron, Stephen Kubrick, Steven Spielberg, Orson Welles, George Lucas, Neil Bloomkapf, Peter Jackson, Kim Ji-woon, Park Chan-wook, and Akira Kurosawa.
Some of his favourite films include: Shawshank Redemption, Citizen Kane, District 9, I Saw The Devil, Yellow Sea, Notting Hill, Four Weddings and A Funeral, Life is Beautiful, Godfather 1 and 2, Reservoir Dogs, Inglorious Bastards, Internal Affairs, In the Mood For Love, The Apartment, Sabrina, Sunset Boulevard, Chinatown, Crash, American Hustle, Full Metal Jacket, A Few Good Men, Glengarry Glen Ross, Parasite and Decision To Leave.
In his free time, he loves to spend time with family. His hobbies include music production, DJing, dancing Kizomba, walking with his dog and watching hockey (He’s an avid Edmonton Oilers Fan).
He currently resides in Edmonton, Canada.
